CHALLENGE
Innovation is the norm at Bern Unlimited; they were the first in the industry to create one helmet for multiple seasons. In partnership with Lifestyledesign, they have introduced the first eco-friendly material to the world of sports goggles - PlusFoam. The design challenge was to re-imagine fundamental goggle construction to fully realize the intrinsic benefits of PlusFoam.
APPROACH
Deep expertise in eyewear design and a passion for sustainable materials led Lifestyledesign to approach Bern with the idea of using PlusFoam as a key component in a ski goggle, and a concept for improving the overall structural integrity of the goggle.
RESULTS
Advanced, super soft, lightweight, and breathable PlusFoam is the first sustainable material to be introduced in the goggle market. The improved structural redesign ensures that the goggle materials can be separated in compliance with global sustainability guidelines.

A NEW CATEGORY OF SUSTAINABLE SNOW GOGGLES
PlusFoam is an amazing material but can be difficult to manufacture as a complex molded part. In addition, a critical aspect of the development process was to analyze, understand and design the complex facial contact areas of the goggles. The results speak for themselves - a goggle that is lightweight, highly impact resistant, breathable, fits snugly and that is sustainable and recyclable.
